Water filtration systems are often found incorrectly installed during the home inspection process. Water lines made from metal are seldom correctly grounded where they have been spliced into to allow for the system. The discharge tube for the filtration system is often found tapped into the sewage drain line which is not allow due to the risk of back up sewage water contaminating the drinking water.

Patio decks are often found incorrectly built during home inspections which can lead to catastrophic failure. Supporting beams and girders should not be supported by bolts but should rest on the notched section of the supporting vertical post.

ARC Fault Breakers are required in most jurisdictions to be installed in the electrical panel that control the power to all receptacles, lights and even the smoke detector in all rooms that are considered a bedroom. Their function is to sense an arc in a connection or appliance causing them to trip preventing a possible house fire. They should be tested annually and replaced if found defective.

Polybutylene Plumbing Pipes

Polybutylene Plumbing Pipes were installed in residential home for the late 70’s to the mid 90’s. These pipes have a high rate of failure under normal operating conditions. The deterioration of the pipe is due to the chemicals found in drinking water such as chlorine. A class action lawsuit applied to houses with polybutylene pipes installed between 1978 and 1995. The pipes are usually gray in color and have copper crimps applied to the ends where that attach to a copper fitting or manifold. The pipes will eventually fail and Ultra Sound Inspections always recommends the pipes be replaced.
